Day 01: Addis Ababa – Fly to Semera, Drive to Afdera and Erta Ale Volcano

Your Visit Danakil journey begins with a flight to Semera, where our team will welcome you and drive you into one of Earth’s most extreme landscapes. First, stop at Lake Afdera, a beautiful salt lake surrounded by natural hot springs—perfect for a relaxing dip. After lunch, continue to Dodom, the starting point for the Erta Ale volcano trek. Around 1:30 PM, begin the 9.5 km walk to the volcano's rim while camels carry your gear. Enjoy an early dinner before camping near the crater, where the glowing lava lake offers a once-in-a-lifetime view under the desert stars.

Day 02: Erta Ale – Hamad Ela – Dallol – Lake Afdera

After an early breakfast, continue your Visit Danakil adventure with a drive to Hamad Ela, a small desert village home to around 500 people. Along the way, witness stunning sunrise views over the salt flats and spot long camel caravans crossing the plains.

Next, visit Ragad (also called Asebo), where Afar locals mine salt in the heart of the Danakil Depression. Watch how they cut blocks of salt from the earth and load them onto camels—an age-old tradition still alive today.

Then, journey to the otherworldly landscapes of Dallol, where colorful hot springs, salt canyons, and lava formations reveal the raw power of nature. Stop by Lake Assale, one of the lowest and saltiest places on Earth, before heading to Lake Afdera. Set up camp by the lakeside for another unforgettable night in the Danakil.

Day 03: Lake Afdera – Semera – Addis Ababa – Departure

Wake up to a final sunrise over the shimmering salt waters of Lake Afdera. After breakfast, begin your return journey to Semera, taking in the last glimpses of the otherworldly Danakil landscapes. Upon arrival in town, you'll be transferred to the airport for your flight back to Addis Ababa.
